MOBILE, AL | In a Saturday doubleheader showdown at Sims-Galle Field in Mobile, Alabama, the Morehouse Maroon Tigers battled hard but came up short in both games against SIAC rival Spring Hill College. Despite flashes of offensive firepower—including home runs from
Ahsaan Henson and
Robert Robinson—and several multi-run innings, the Maroon Tigers were unable to overcome defensive miscues and timely hitting by the Badgers. The pair of losses dropped Morehouse to 16-21 overall and 10-18 in conference play as they continue their push toward postseason contention.
GAME ONE - SPRING HILL 9, MOREHOUSE 5
Morehouse fell to Spring Hill 9-5 on Saturday.
Spring Hill got on the board in the first inning after a single, scoring one run.
A single by
TJ Whiteman gave Morehouse the lead, 2-1, in the top of the third.
A double play helped Spring Hill tie the game at two in the bottom of the third.
Spring Hill jumped into the lead in the bottom of the sixth with a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, an RBI single, scoring one run, and and another single, scoring two runs.
Morehouse scored one run in the top of the eighth on a solo home run to left field by
Robert Robinson on an 0-2 count.
Julian Goodman took the loss for Morehouse. The pitcher went three innings, allowing seven runs (three earned) on seven hits, striking out one and walking three.
Noah Grayson started the game for Morehouse. The pitcher allowed four hits and two runs over five innings, striking out five and walking four.
Robinson and
Elijah Pinckney each collected two hits for Morehouse. Whiteman and Pinckney each drove in two runs for Morehouse. Morehouse turned one double play in the game.
GAME TWO - SPRING HILL 11, MOREHOUSE 6
Morehouse Loses Despite Out Hitting Spring Hill
Even though Morehouse collected 10 hits to Spring Hill's nine, they still fell 11-6 on Saturday.
Robert Robinson and
Myles Gordon each collected two hits for Morehouse.
Morehouse opened the scoring in the first after Robinson singled, scoring one run.
An error gave Spring Hill the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the first.
Spring Hill added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning with a single, scoring one run, and a double, scoring two runs. Spring Hill scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth on a grand slam to left field.
Morehouse scored three runs in the top of the sixth on a home run to center field by
Josiah Smith.
Vernon Clay took the loss for Morehouse. The righty went three innings, giving up five runs (zero earned) on three hits, striking out none and walking two.
Morehouse amassed 10 hits in the game. Smith led Morehouse with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-1 on the day. Morehouse had patience at the plate, piling up eight walks for the game.
Raymond Jenkins and
Elijah Pinckney led the team with two bases on balls each. Morehouse turned one double play in the game.
