Morehouse Falls Short in Doubleheader

FORT VALLEY, GA | The Morehouse Maroon Tigers men's volleyball team faced a grueling doubleheader on Saturday at the Health and Physical Education Complex, taking on SIAC rival Fort Valley State in the opener before facing a tough challenge against nationally-ranked Lewis University. Despite dropping both matches, the Maroon Tigers gained valuable experience as they continue to build chemistry and develop their young roster.

FORT VALLEY 3, MOREHOUSE 0

The Morehouse Maroon Tigers men's volleyball team faced a tough challenge in their SIAC matchup against the Fort Valley State Wildcats, falling in straight sets (18-25, 12-25, 14-25) in the opening game of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at the Health and Physical Education Complex.

Despite the loss, Morehouse showed resilience, with standout performances from key players. Aidan Pullian led the Tigers' offensive effort with five kills, hitting at a .300 clip. Daniel Allen also contributed five kills, while setter Jamar Shackleford Jr. played a pivotal role in distributing the ball, tallying a team-high 17 assists.

On the defensive end, Myles Tucker anchored the backline with five digs, while Allen and Pullian each chipped in four digs. The Maroon Tigers struggled to gain momentum at the service line, managing just one ace courtesy of Lashawn Peeples. Fort Valley State capitalized on their home-court advantage, finishing with a .413 hitting percentage and eight service aces.

Morehouse (0-5, 0-3 SIAC)  looked to regroup and find a stronger rhythm in the second game of the doubleheader later in the day. 

LEWIS 3, MOREHOUSE 0

The Morehouse Maroon Tigers faced a daunting challenge in their second match of a Saturday doubleheader, falling to the nationally-ranked (#15) Lewis Flyers in straight sets (14-25, 10-25, 10-25) at the Health and Physical Education Complex.

Morehouse struggled to find offensive rhythm against the high-powered Flyers, managing just 11 kills as a team. Charles Parrish Jr. led the Tigers' attack with three kills, while Aidan Pullian and Daniel Allen each added two. Setter Jamar Shackleford Jr. contributed all 11 of the team's assists.

Defensively, Myles Tucker stood out with a team-high nine digs, while Parrish Jr. and Allen each recorded two. Allen also registered the Tigers' lone block of the match, and Kristopher Woods provided the team's only service ace.

UPCOMING

Morehouse will return to action on Monday as they host Fort Valley State at Forbes Arena.
