Morehose Drops Two of Three at Lane

JACKSON, TN | Over the weekend, Morehouse baseball traveled to Jackson, TN to face the Lane Dragons.  Morehouse would drop two of the three contests.  

Game One (Sat):  MOREHOUSE 13, LANE 8

Hits Aplenty In Morehouse Maroon Tigers Victory Over Lane College Dragons

There were runs aplenty on Saturday, as the Morehouse Maroon Tigers defeated Lane College Dragons 13-8. The Maroon Tigers collected 18 hits, while Lane College Dragons had nine.

The Maroon Tigers got on the board in the top of the second inning after Myles Gordon singled, scoring one run, Raymond Jenkins singled, scoring one run, Devin Loor induced Robert Robinson to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, Vernon Clay singled, scoring one run, Elijah James singled, scoring one run, and Darrien Chapman singled, scoring two runs. Morehouse added one run in the third after Robinson singled to right field. Calvin Butts homered to left field, scoring two runs in the top of the ninth for the Morehouse Maroon Tigers.

Julian Goodman earned the win for Morehouse. The pitcher surrendered five hits and four runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out three and walking two.  Jamie Lawrence III and Quenton Mitchell Jr each appeared in relief for Morehouse Tigers.

Morehouse piled up 18 hits in the game. Leadoff hitter Jenkins led the Maroon Tigers with four hits in five at bats. Robinson went 1-for-5 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Victor Clay, James Thorpe, Butts, and Vernon Clay each collected multiple hits for Morehouse.

Game Two (Sat):  LANE 15, MOREHOUSE 2

Morehouse Maroon Tigers Drop Tough Game Against Lane College Dragons

Morehouse had trouble keeping up with Lane College Dragons in a 15-2 loss on Saturday.

The Lane College Dragons jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after a walk, scoring one run, followed by another walk, scoring one run.  A hit by a pitch and a single, plated additional runs.  A single and a double helped Lane extend their early lead in the second.  The Dragons added one run in the third after a sacrifice fly.

Saivion Mohammed pitched three and one-third innings in relief for the Maroon Tigers. The righty surrendered eight hits and six runs while, striking out one and walking one. Cameron Solomon started the game for Morehouse. The starting pitcher gave up zero hits and five runs over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one and walking five. 

Victor Clay led Morehouse with two runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The catcher went 1-for-3 on the day. Morehouse's Mariano McLean, the number seven hitter, led the Maroon Tigers with two hits in three at bats. The Maroon Tigers were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Victor Clay made the most plays with three.

Game Three (Sun):  LANE 11, MOREHOUSE 5

Morehouse Maroon Tigers Lose Despite Out Hitting Lane College Dragons

Even though the Morehouse Maroon Tigers collected seven hits to the Lane College Dragons's five, they still fell 11-5 on Sunday. Robert Robinson led Morehouse with two hits.

Lane College Dragons got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after a homer to right field, followed by a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run. Lane College Dragons added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning when a walk scored one run, a dropped third strike scored another run, and an error scored two runs. Lane College Dragons added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after the Maroon Tigers committed an error and sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.

Brian Uquart pitched three innings in relief for Morehouse. The pitcher surrendered three hits and three runs (one earned) while, striking out two and walking five. Cameron Solomon stepped on the hill first for Morehouse. The starting pitcher allowed one hit and six runs (three earned) over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking five. 

Robinson, Darrien Chapman, Vernon Clay, and Triston Minor each drove in one run for Morehouse. The Maroon Tigers turned one double play in the game.

UP NEXT
