ROME, GA | Even though Morehouse Tigers collected six hits to Shorter's four, they still fell 12-6 on Tuesday.
Raymond Jenkins led Morehouse Tigers with two hits.
Morehouse Tigers got on the board in the second inning after
Robert Robinson singled, scoring one run.
Shorter jumped into the lead in the bottom of the second when a player was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, an error scored one run, followed by a grounded out, scoring two runs.
Josiah Smith homered to left field, which helped Morehouse Tigers tie the game at four in the top of the fifth.
In the bottom of the fifth, Shorter broke up the tie with a grounded out, scoring one run. Then a wild pitch followed to extend the lead to 6-4.
Shorter scored five runs on one hit in the bottom of the sixth inning: a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and a grand slam to center field.
Vernon Clay started the game for Morehouse Tigers. The starting pitcher allowed one hit and four runs (two earned) over two innings, striking out three and walking two.
Smith went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Morehouse Tigers had a strong eye at the plate, piling up eight walks for the game. Morehouse Tigers turned one double play in the game.
The Maroon Tigers return to SIAC action, at home with a doubleheader against LeMoyne-Owen on Saturday at Gresham Park. Game one is set for noon and game two will follow 30 minutes after the completion of game one. The series finale will occur on Sunday, with first pitch at noon.
