Baseball Falls in Midweek Doubleheader to Paine

ATLANTA, Ga. __ Morehouse baseball dropped a pair of home games on Wednesday afternoon against Paine College by scores of 7-0 and 8-2 at Gresham Park in a midweek non-conference contest.
 
The Maroon Tigers entered the week after splitting a three-game road series against Kentucky State, however, are now 12-20 overall. Paine is now 9-10 overall and snap a four-game losing streak with the doubleheader win.
 
After a scoreless first inning, Paine opened the scoring in the top of the second thanks to a pair of RBI singles, with the first from Vladimir Lemos to gain the first lead of the contest. Later in the inning, the Lions added another two runs on a single to left field to take a 3-0 lead.
 
Paine extended its lead in the fourth with two runs off a Morehouse error, before added a run in the sixth on an RBI single up the middle and a final run in the seventh on a groundout for the 7-0 final.
 
Saivion Mohammed took the loss for the Maroon Tigers on the mound in the first game, going just two innings and allowing three runs on four hits, striking out two and walking one. Robert Robison and TJ Whiteman both collected a team-high two hits at the plate in the loss.
 
Game two was also a high-scoring affair for Paine, as the Lions took an 8-2 win behind 13 total hits at the plate.
 
The contest was scoreless for two innings until an RBI double to right field to break the tie. Paine later scored on an RBI single to center field, before a groundout to third to go up 3-0 heading into the bottom half of the frame.
 
Morehouse got on the board in the bottom of the third on just one hit, as Jaylen Greene brought home Eliyahu Pinckney for the first run, followed by a score in the fourth from James Thorpe off a single to left from Lee Hodges III.
 
Leading by just one run, Paine extended its lead in the top of the fifth following a sacrifice fly to right field. The Lions pushed the lead to 8-2 after six, as the team collected five hits in the frame and added four runs to take the win.
 
Brian Uquart took the loss for Morehouse, going three and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on 12 hits and walking one batter. Cameron Solomon stepped on the bump first to start for the Maroon Tigers, surrendering one hit and no runs over two innings, while striking out one.
 
Four different batters combined for four hits from Morehouse, while Greene and Hodges III each drove in one run. Green, Thorpe, and Elijah James each stole multiple bases, as the team combined for eight stolen bases in the contest.
