Maroon Tigers Take Two of Three Weekend Games to Claim Home Series Over Benedict

ATLANTA, Ga. __ Morehouse baseball secured a conference series win over Benedict College over the weekend, taking two of three games over the Tigers at Gresham Park. The Maroon Tigers won on Friday, 2-1, before splitting a Saturday doubleheader winning 15-5 before falling in the series finale, 12-8.

Morehouse topped Benedict 2-1 on Friday evening after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the eighth when Robert Robinson hit an RBI single to give the Maroon Tigers the final lead.
 
The pitching was strong on both sides in the contest, as Morehouse struck out six batters, while Benedict sat down two. The Maroon Tigers were the first to get on the board in the second, when TJ Whiteman hit a sacrifice fly to score the opening run.
 
Benedict responded with a solo home run in the top of the third to tie the game, as the score would remain the same until the late RBI from Robinson.
 
Jalen Hardiman earned the win for Morehouse in relief, allowing four hits and no runs over four innings, striking out three and walking two. Saivion Mohammed got the start for the Maroon Tigers, allowing just four hits and one run over four and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking two, while Jaiden Proper collected the save.

Saturday started with an offensive explosion from Morehouse, as Elijah Pinckney went a perfect 4-for-4 to lead the home team from the plate in the 15-5 win. Pinckney picked up three singles and a double in the game.
 
Benedict was the first to get on the board in the opening inning, as an RBI double gave the team its first run. Morehouse responded in the bottom of the second, getting on the board with a score on a wild pitch, tying the game at 1-1. BC regained the lead in the third with an RBI single, before the Maroon Tigers started to pull away, scoring three in the fourth to go up 5-2.
 
Morehouse scored four more runs in the fifth, before six combined runs in the seventh and eighth to end the contest. Jamie Lawrence III earned the win on the mound for the Maroon Tigers, allowing four runs on ten hits in five innings, while striking out four and walking three. Proper appeared in relief for the second game of the series.
 
Morehouse tallied a series-high 17 hits in the win, led by Pinckney and Jaylen Greene, who led the team with six runs batted in and also went 4-of-6 on the day.

The offensive nature continued in the third and final game of the weekend, however Benedict took the game 12-8 to close out the series, despite being outhit 12 to seven by the Maroon Tigers.
 
Benedict got on the board in the first inning after a double from Taj Bates, driving home the first run.
 
The Maroon Tigers took their first lead in the bottom of the second after RBI singles from Darrien Chapman and Pinckney, walk from Alan Brown, and a score on a sacrifice fly to take a 4-1 lead.
 
BC regained its edge in the fourth, scoring on a bases loaded walk, followed by a wild pitch, line out, and RBI single from Justin Murray, going up 6-4, however the lead was short lived. Morehouse added three runs in the bottom half of the frame, thanks to an RBI single from Myles Tucker, followed by a double from Greene to score another run, and a sacrifice fly from Elijah James, giving Morehouse a 7-6 lead.
 
Benedict flipped the game on its head in the top of the seventh, scoring five runs on one hit to take a 12-8 lead and secure the win. The biggest blow in the inning was an RBI single from Jose Gil.
 
Cameron Solomon took the loss for Morehouse on the mound, working two and one-third innings, allowing three runs on two hits, while striking out three and walking four. Casey Coates earned the start and worked for three and two-third innings, giving up five hits and six runs, striking out two and walking five.
