Albany, GA- In an epic showdown on Saturday, Morehouse embarked on a two-road game series, facing Albany State in a game that would stretch into double-overtime. The Maroon Tigers emerged triumphant, securing a nail-biting 84-83 victory over the Golden Rams.
Morehouse set the tone early, claiming the first points and establishing a small lead over Albany State. The Golden Rams, however, responded with determination, and the score remained tight until 15:50, with a tie at 10-10. The first half saw back-and-forth scoring until 12:47 when Albany State secured a lead. The Golden Rams finished the first half with a 10-point advantage, leading 39-29.
In the second half, Albany State maintained their lead, reaching a 14-point advantage at 11:20. Morehouse, refusing to back down, staged a remarkable comeback. With just 1:19 on the clock, the Maroon Tigers took the lead, tying the score at 61-61. A late-game foul sent Albany State to the line, briefly giving them a lead, but a quick response by
Cedric Taylor III tied the score again at 63-63, forcing the game into overtime.
The first overtime period was a rollercoaster, featuring lead changes and clutch plays. Under the 2-minute mark,
Amahn Decker's layup gave Morehouse a slim lead at 68-67. Albany State responded with a three-pointer, but a last-minute layup by
Jaden Gray tied the score at 70-70, pushing the game into double-overtime.
Albany State initiated the second overtime with a dunk, aiming to regain control. Despite the Golden Rams creating a small lead, Morehouse fought relentlessly. Under the one-minute mark, a three-pointer by
Cedric Taylor III narrowed the gap to 82-81. A late-game foul sent Albany State to the line, making it 83-81, but a quick layup by Gray leveled the score at 83-83. Gray's determination sealed the victory for Morehouse, securing an 84-83 win in a game.
Jamir Moore finished the game with double-digit score of 25 points. Shakur Porter added 16 points.
Morehouse had four players finish with double digits.
Damion Mitchell would finish with 21 points,
Jaden Gray had 20 points,
Amahn Decker with 18 points, and
Cedric Taylor III with 12 points.
