Promising Start Doesn't Go Well For Maroon Tigers

Fairfield, AL |  The Maroon Tigers got off to a promising start, in Fairfield, AL, as Miles College celebrated their homecoming, but Morehouse did not maintain the opening energy, as the Maroon Tigers fell to the Golden Bears.

After Miles won the toss and deferred, the Maroon Tigers would take the opening possession, gaining one first down, but stall out.  A third down sack of QB Miles Scott would force a Maroon Tiger punt.  The Morehouse defense would set to the plate, as Carlos Dunovant intercepted a Golden Bear pass, on their first offensive play, to allow Morehouse to regain possession.  The Maroon Tigers would march the ball down to the Miles 18 yard line, and settle for a 35-yard filed goal to take a 3-0 lead, with 9:32 remaining in the opening quarter.

The Golden Bears would quickly answer, with a touchdown (PAT failed) to earn a 6-3 lead.  That would be the first of five consecutive drives that the Golden Bears would score on, to raise the margin to 34-3 at halftime.  The second half would remain scoreless, until midway through the 4th quarter, when the Golden Bears would tack on a field goal, to increase the deficit to 37-3.

On the day, the Golden Bears outgained the Maroon Tigers, 388 to 110 in total offense.  The Maroon Tigers were able to gather one interception, which led to the only points by Morehouse.  The Maroon Tiger defense collected three sacks, with Caleb Grant earning two of the sacks.  Isaiah Reaves collected the other sack.  Sean Johnson and Grant led the Maroon Tigers with seven tackles, each.  Offensively, Ajani Willams led Morehouse with six receptions for 67 yards.  Miles Scott was 13 for 32, for 167 yards, and was sacked six times.

The Maroon Tigers close out the season on Saturday, in the Big Cat Classic, as the neighboring Clark-Atlanta Panthers visit B.T. Harvey Stadium.  The game is set for 1PM and will be broadcast on ESPN+.  For up-to-date athletic information on the Maroon Tigers, follow them on social media or online at www.morehouseathletics.com.
