ATLANTA- A battle for first place in SIAC East Division, came down to the last minute of a high intensity 40 minute game, with Morehouse pulling out the win 76-69.
Coming into today, both Morehouse and Benedict College were 7-1 in conference play. Morehouse just coming off a close six point loss to Howard Monday night in DC, flew back home to play one of the best teams in D2 basketball.
Throughout the game neither side would let up, as each team traded bucket for bucket! At half, Morehouse was up one, but Benedict showed in the second half why they are one of the best teams in the conference.
Morehouse struggled shooting tonight as they shot 20% from three and 36% from the field. As the game progressed, points in the paint, 30, and the bench scoring 32 of Morehouse 76 points helped them close the game out. Cedric Taylor III led the team in scoring with 17 points, while back court teammates, Damion Mitchell and Jaden Gray were also in double figures this game.
Each team showed up and showed out tonight at one point trading dunk for dunk. At the end, Morehouse pulled away hitting late free throws and great offensively down the stretch, securing them first place in SIAC.
The Maroon Tigers of Morehouse will be heading to Savannah State University on Saturday, January 20th, at 4 pm. Come travel and show your support for our Maroon Tigers!
