Atlanta, Ga- Morehouse kicked off their first game of the season in the South Regional Challenge Tournament against Palm Beach Atlantic. In OT, Morehouse would have a heartbreaking loss against the Sailfish, 86-76.
Morehouse would have a slow start to their season opener as Palm Beach would start the game off by getting the first points up on the board. The Sailfish would keep a steady lead on the Maroon Tigers until the last five minutes of the game when a two shot free throw by
Keshawn Pegues would help Morehouse take the lead away from Palm Beach. With 2:37 left in the game, the score would tie again, 27-27 but a quick jump shot by
Damion Mitchell would put Morehouse back in the lead and they would keep it until the end of the first half, 35-33.
Coming back from half time scoring would go back and forth between the two teams until Morehouse would develop a 10 point lead on Palm Beach. Palm Beach would have difficulty scoring until 13:08 when a foul by Cedric Taylor sent them to the free throw line but Morehouse would respond with another shot making sure they kept their 10+ point lead. Within the last minute of the game Palm Beach would make an incredible come back making the game, 72-70. A last minute foul by
Keshawn Pegues would send Trent McNair to the free throw and tying the score, 72-72, sending them into their first OT.
Entering OT, Morehouse would start off strong by getting the first two points, but Palm Beach would respond with a jumper of their own being down by one point. Morehouse would have issues scoring and this would allow Palm Beach to create a 10 point advantage on Morehouse ending the game with the win.
The two leading scorers for Palm Beach were Dan Braster who had 22 points and Trent McNair who had 21 points.
Jaden Gray would lead Morehouse with 15 points.
Omar Rowe would finish the game with 13 points.
The Maroon Tigers are back in action tomorrow as they play against Embry-Riddle at 2pm.
