Atlanta, GA- Morehouse kicked off their 2023 season with a tough loss against Central State University, 85-80, on Wednesday evening at Forbes Arena.
Central State would kick off the game with a 7 point lead over the Maroon Tigers until a foul by Antowin Reed would put Morehouse on the board at 16:50. Morehouse would slowly keep putting points up on the board, but Central State would keep their lead for the whole first half getting up to an 11 point lead at 4:59 with a jumper by Steven Key. Morehouse would break that lead down by only 9 points finishing the half with a score 44-35.
The Marauders would start off the second half with a quick layup by Marcus Scott, but Morehouse would quickly respond with a jumper of their own by
Nate Lacewell. At 15:40, the Maroon Tigers would break that lead Central State had to just 2 points but that quickly change with made back to back shots by Marcus Scott. Morehouse would eventually take a small 3 point lead over the Marauders at 10:01 but a 3 pointer by Marcus Scott would tie the score, 63-63, and with a shot my
Joemel McNair would give Morehouse 65 points but Central State responder with a shot of their own tying the score once again, 65-65. Morehouse put up a tough fight for the win but ultimately Central State secured the win, 85-80.
Marcus Scott would lead his team with double digits finishing with 24 points. Willie Jackson came off the bench with 21 points.
Ibn Williams would lead the Maroon Tigers with 19 points.
Kerry Richardson with 17 points and
Andrew Stewart with 15 points.
The Maroon Tigers next game is on the road as they get ready to travel to Columbia, SC to take on Allen University on Saturday, Dec 7, tip off at 7:00pm.
