ATLANTA – The Maroon Tigers were shut out by the Savannah State University Tigers Saturday, 0-12, in the first of a three-game series.
Savannah State (15-6 overall, 11-1 in conference play) got off to a strong start, scoring eight runs in the first two innings. Morehouse shortstop Dexter Redding doubled in the bottom of the second, but the Maroon Tigers were not able to capitalize before sophomore catcher
David Coleman II grounded out with two on base.
Trailing 0-12 in the bottom of the sixth, the Maroon Tigers caught a break when sophomore
Jaylen Greene was hit by a Savannah State pitch; he then made it to third on an errant throw by the Tigers. However, Morehouse would again leave two men on base due to a late-inning strikeout. The Maroon Tigers did not manage a hit in the last inning.
Morehouse's Redding led the Maroon Tigers with two hits.
The loss drops the Maroon Tigers to 2-12 (2-2 in SIAC play). Morehouse will play a doubleheader with Savannah State University on Sunday; games are scheduled for 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.
