ATLANTA – The Maroon Tigers lost both games of a doubleheader against the Tigers of Savannah State University on Sunday, 4-12 and 2-10.
Game #1: After falling behind early, the Maroon Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sophomore Jaylen Greene's double put him and junior Daylun Powe-Salters in scoring position; both players would eventually score, and tie the game, 2-2.
Savannah State surged ahead in the next two innings, taking a 9-2 lead into the top of the seventh. Morehouse scored two more runs in the seventh and eighth innings, including a solo home run by Powe-Salters. Savannah State put the game away in the top of the ninth with two more scores, for a final of 4-12.
Powe-Salters led the Maroon Tigers with two hits and an RBI.
Game #2: The Tigers took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning. The Maroon Tigers answered in the fourth when seniors Derrick Odom and Miles Grayson both scored.
Savannah State surged ahead in the next inning, using multiple sacrifice flies to score four runs. The game was called when the Tigers scored three more runs at the top of the sixth, resulting in a 10-2 final.
Senior Amyr Smith paced the Maroon Tigers with two hits.
The losses give Morehouse an overall record of 2-14. The Maroon Tigers will next face Morris College at Gresham Park on March 23 (1:00 p.m.).
