Atlanta, GA- Morehouse bounced back from their lost last weekend against Talladega with a win over Columbus State, 76-72.
The Cougars would start the game off quickly with a missed three by Joshua Jerome which followed by a foul from Nelson Haskin giving the Maroon Tigers the first two points of the game by free throws from Nate Lacewell. The Cougars would give their first two points of the game from free throws as well.
The Cougars would make a small lead on the Maroon Tigers of nine points during the first half, but the Maroon Tigers would quickly tie up the game with a score of 11-11 at the twelve minute mark but that tie would quickly change with a dunk by Mohamad Diallo. Both teams would go back and forth on retaking the leads until the half ended Columbus State with a one point lead, 32-31.
Morehouse would start the second half off fast paced with a jumper by Joemel McNair giving them a two point lead over the Cougars. The Maroon Tigers would have a thirteen point lead at the 10 minute mark with back to back threes and free throws. Columbus State would slowly start making a comeback until the last .23 seconds of the game when Daniel Melvin would make a three pointer leaving only a three point lead for Morehouse. Andrew Stewart would quickly make that three point lead into a six point lead by shooting a three pointer. With 6 seconds on the clock and a foul from Columbus State, Morehouse would claim the win with the last two points of the game.
To lead his team tonight was Grant Howard who had a total of fourteen points. Followed behind him was Demierre Black with twelve.
Ibn Williams and Elijah Stewart would both tie with a score of 16 points. Andrew Stewart would be right behind his teammates with thirteen points.
The Maroon Tigers will be back in action on Friday, Nov 18, as they are participating in the HBCU All Star Challenge tournament. Tip off for their game is at 7pm against Livingstone College.
