BIRMINGHAM, AL - (9/29/2022) — Known as the longest-running NCAA Division II classic in the nation, the Morehouse Tuskegee Classic will take place Saturday, October 8th at Legion Field. Gates will open at 5 p.m. and kickoff will be at 7 p.m. CT. This HBCU classic is being presented by the City of Birmingham and Alabama Power. The game will be televised on ESPN+.
This football classic began in 1902 as an entertainment event for the African - American civilian community and U.S. Army soldiers in the Columbus-Fort Benning, Ga., and Phenix City, Ala. area. Today, its primary purpose is to help raise funds for scholarships to help young men and women attend college. Many graduates of Tuskegee and Morehouse call the Magic City home.
"I'm happy to be a proud graduate of Morehouse College, but I'm equally proud that my home city is hosting this incredible event for the second year in a row," said Birmingham Mayor Randall L. Woodfin. "Historically Black Colleges and Universities have been so important to the culture of our city and state, so it's only right that we continue to celebrate these institutions and the impact they've made on the lives of fans, students and alumni."
Presidents from both schools are proud to be back in Birmingham for this legendary face off, which will also feature marching bands from both schools. Former American Idol contestant Domonique Posey will sing the National Anthem.
"The Morehouse Tuskegee Classic allows us to showcase the athletic, academic, and civic leaders both institutions continue to produce," said Morehouse College President David A. Thomas. "We are proud to join our distinguished alumnus, Mayor Randall Woodfin, and our fantastic supporters in this region to celebrate excellence on the gridiron, in the classroom, and in the community." Said Tuskegee President Charlotte P. Morris: "Tuskegee University is excited about continuing our participation in this historic football rival with Morehouse. Our alumni and fans are looking forward to some great football and festivities being planned in the city of Birmingham."
