Jacksonville, FL- One day delayed due to the affect of Hurricane Ian throughout the state of Florida, The Maroon Tigers fought a hard game to get their first win of the season, but Edward Waters would end up taking the win, 20-49.
The Tigers got on the scoreboard first on their opening drive with a 15 yard rushing touchdown from junior Tyler King to give EWU a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. EWU doubled up their advantage with a TD from David Johnson to Tyberious Horne which gave the Tigers a 14-0 lead.
Morehouse was able to cut into the lead to start the second quarter with a rushing TD by
Ernest Davis III to bring the Maroon Tigers within one score at 14-7. The Tigers would get a 65 yard touchdown making the score 21-7.
The EWU air attack continued in the third quarter when Yanez Rogers Jr was found on the opposite end of a 52 yard TD pass from Johnson to give the Tigers a 35-7 lead. MHC responded with a TD run with 9:35 left in the third.
The Tigers for the third time in the contest found the endzone, this time from eight yards out to push the Tigers lead to 42-13.
Morehouse scored a four yard rushing TD with 2:02 left in the third to bring the score a bit closer at 42-20. Edward Waters concluded their winning streak early in the fourth quarter by scoring another touchdown and taking the win with a 49-20 victory.
The Maroon Tigers are on the road again this week as they travel to Birmingham, AL for the Morehouse and Tuskegee Classic. The Classic will take place on Oct 8 at 7pm.
