Powell's Buzzer Beater Helps #25 Morehouse Pull Out Win Over Winston-Salem State

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The #25 ranked Morehouse College basketball team beat Winston-Salem State University in dramatic fashion as freshman Kevin Powell's buzzer beating layup propelled the Maroon Tigers to a 66-64 victory in the finale of the CIAA/SIAC Challenge on Saturday evening.

The Maroon Tigers improve to 2-1 while the Rams fall to 1-2 on the season.

Turning Point
Powell rebounded Olmert's missed layup and put it in the basket for his only two points of the night beating the buzzer giving Morehouse the victory.

Individual Leaders
The Maroon Tigers were led by sophomore Malik Kennedy (Toronto Ontario, CAN) who had a game-high 14 points along with freshman guard Julian Alexander (Atlanta, GA) who also had 14 points in the win while shooting 5-of-8 from behind the arc. Senior guard Michael Olmert (Atlanta, GA) just missed a double-double as he finished the night with 10 points and eight assist on the night.

Jaylen Alston led the Rams as he had a team-high 12 points while Dontae Caldwell chipped in with 11 points off the bench.
