ATLANTA, Ga. - The #25 ranked Morehouse College basketball team could not hold on to a late lead and fell to Shaw University, 87-86, in the first game of the 2019 CIAA/SIAC Challenge on Friday evening in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The Maroon Tigers fall to 1-1 on the season while the Bears improved to 2-1.

MHC led most of the first half and took 42-41 lead into the locker rooms. In the second half Morehouse led by as many as 12 points (67-55) with 12:26 remaining in the ball game but could not hold on to the lead and lost in the final seconds.

Turning Point
With the Maroon and White holding on to an 86-85 lead with 10 seconds remaining, Shaw's Greyson Kelley hit a 15 footer from the left baseline giving the Bears the one point victory.

Individual Leaders
For the second consecutive game, senior guard Michael Olmert (Atlanta, GA) paced Morehouse with a team-high 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting, while also pulling down six rebounds and dishing out four assist. Sophomore Xavier Brewer (Atlanta, GA) had 12 points and five boards while freshman's Julien Alexander (Atlanta, GA) and Demarcus Johnson (East Point, GA) had 14 and 12 points respectively.

Kelley had a game-high 35 points for the Bears while David Madol chipped in with 22 points.
