Morehouse Wins Two of Three Over Clark Atlanta

Box Score March 4, 2018 -- ATLANTA -- Morehouse took the second of three games over Clark Atlanta, with a 5-2 win against the Panther. Yesterday the teams split a doubleheader. CAU won the first game, 8-4, and Morehouse won the second game, 5-1.

The Panthers got on the board in the first inning, with an unearned run against starting pitcher Keon Cusic. Morehouse bounced back in the bottom of the first, with two runs. Leadoff batter Jason Davis singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Amyr Smith singled, driving Davis to third and advancing to second on the throw to third. First baseman Xavier Floyd singled, driving Davis home and Smith to third. Left-fielder Kaelan Ashford-Jones hit a sacrifice fly to left field, which scored Smith. 

Cusic held the Panthers scoreless for the next two innings and was replaced on the mound by Grant Bennett, who pitched the next three innings. Bennett gave up a run in the fifth and got the win, improving his record to 3-2.

The Tigers broke it open in their half of the fifth, scoring three runs with two outs. Designated hitter Jared Maner and Ashford-Jones walked. Third baseman Christian Griffith singled to right, driving home Maner and advancing to second on the throw to the plate. Auliver Astin singled to left field, bringing Ashford-Jones and Griffith home. 

Kristopher Skinner took the mound, in relief of Bennett and closed out the game. He allowed one hit, two walks, and he struck out four. 

Morehouse improved to 9-10. Clark Atlanta dropped to 7-9.
