Morehouse Swept By Edward Waters

February 21, 2017 -- ATLANTA -- The Maroon Tigers dropped two games to the Edward Waters Tigers, losing the first 5-4, and the second, 7-5. 
 
In game one, Morehouse got on the board first, on a single by Jared Marer that drove in Amyr Smith. Maner had two hits on three trips to the plate. Smith had reached on a single, stole second and advanced to third on a balk by EWC pitcher Zachary Kazak. 

Edward Waters bounced back in the third, touching up pitcher Jason Davis for four runs on two hits, three walks and an error. Only one of the runs was earned. 

Morehouse scored another run in the fifth inning. Right fielder Bobby Kannady let off with a walk, advanced to second base on a passed ball and moved to third base, on a sacrifice bunt by Derrick Lewis. Jordan Davis hit a sacrifice fly to center that scored Kannady. 

EWC picked up a run in the seventh inning, on two singles and a passed ball. 

Morehouse rallied in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs against reliever Dorion Kemp. Singles by Werten Bellamy and Austin Jeter, who pinch hit for Derrick Lewis, set up Kaelen Ashford-Jones who doubled, driving in two runs. Ashford-Jones was pinch hitting for Amyr Smith. Errol Parker flied out to left field, to end the rally.  

In game two, Morehouse again struck first. In the second inning, third baseman Grant Bennett singled to left field, advanced to second on a wild pitch and stole third, as part of a double steal with Xavier Floyd. Bennett scored when designated hitter Jason Davis grounded out to the shortstop.

The 1-0 lead held up until the fourth inning when the visiting Tigers jumped on Morehouse pitcher Anthony Dod­­d for five runs, three of them earned.

Morehouse bounced back for three runs in the fifth. Centerfielder Errol Parker singled, advanced to third on an error and scored on a sacrifice bunt by shortstop Amyr Smith.

The big blow in the inning was a line drive home run to right field by leftfielder Jared Maner who hit his third homer of the season.  The homer scored second baseman Werten Bellamy who had reached on an error.

Edward Waters got two runs back in the sixth inning off of left-hander Daron Bowling who had replaced Dodd in the third inning.

Errol Parker scored the final Morehouse run in the bottom of the sixth inning. After walking, stealing second and advancing to third on a single by Bellamy, Parker scooted home on a groundout by Smith.

This was the second doubleheader sweep by Edward Waters, which beat Morehouse 7-1 and 7-6, two weeks ago.

Morehouse fell to 3-12 on the season. The Maroon Tigers will return to action, March 1, when they host the Reinhardt University Eagles, at Perkerson Park.
