April 13, 2015 – ATLANTA – In one of the longest and most exciting games of the season, Morehouse pulled out a 12-11 win, over the Paine College Lions, with a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the tenth inning.

The Maroon Tigers led 11-5 going into the ninth inning, but surrendered six runs in what should have been the final inning.

Left fielder Jared Maner scored the winning run, when Paine pitcher Q. Alsbrook threw ball four to Darrius Johnson, to end the four-hour game.

Maner and third baseman Christian Griffith supplied much of the Morehouse firepower. Maner hit a two-run shot in the first inning and Griffith hit a three-run bomb in the third. The big early lead gave the Tigers the cushion they needed to survive the Paine rally.

For Griffin, who had two hits and scored twice, it was his first homer of the season. The sophomore third baseman added a single and scored twice.

Maner's home run was his fourth. He hit two homers in yesterday's 10-8 win over the Lions. The freshman left fielder finished with three hits, three RBI, two walks and five runs scored.

Infielder Xavier Floyd, batting in the designated hitter spot, had a big hit, driving in two runs in the first.

Paine's late rally spoiled an excellent performance by Jalen Logan-Givens who pitched eight strong innings and left with a six-run lead, but failed to get the decision.

With one on in the ninth inning, Logan-Givens was lifted for Anthony Dodd came on to pitch. Three walks, an error, a single and a grand slam later and the game was tied 11-11.

The Tigers got nothing going in the bottom of the ninth. Jason Davis came in from right field to pitch and shut down the Lions.

In the bottom of the tenth, Jared Maner led off with a single and Patrick Dickerson bunted him to second. Elijah Sudduth and Derrick Lewis walked to load the bases. Johnson, who had gone into right field to replace Davis, drew a 3-2 count, before watching ball four sail by and earn him a dramatic game-winning RBI.

Saturday's doubleheader drew nearly 200 fans to the annual Fan Appreciation Day cookout sponsored by the Morehouse Tailgaters.

Winning two of the three games against Paine, Morehouse improved to 12-19; 5-13. In fifth place in the SIAC East, Morehouse won't qualify for the post-season tournament, to be held in Columbia, SC.

The Maroon Tigers travel to Tuscaloosa next weekend, to take on the Stillman Tigers, in the season finale.
