April 11, 2015 -- ATLANTA -- The Maroon Tigers split a doubleheader with the Paine College Lions, winning the first game, 10-8, and falling in the second game, 17-3.

In Game 1:

Morehouse jumped out to a 3-0 lead on the strength of two Jared Maner homers – a two-run blast in the first and a solo bomb in the third.

Maner's two home runs were the first two-homer game by a Maroon Tiger since now-pitcher Xzadrean Gladney hit two against Edward Waters, in 2013.

Posting three more runs in the fourth inning and exploding for four more in the sixth, the Tigers looked comfortable with a 10-2 lead entering the seventh and final inning.

But Paine's bats came alive and the Lions scored six runs on five hits and a grand slam.

Daron Bowling got the win. The sophomore left-hander pitched a solid game before running out of gas and loading the bases. Bowling gave way to reliever Anthony Dodd, who gave up the grand slam and two more runs, but slammed the door without further damage. Bowling struck out six and walked none.

Ryan Christian had a hot bat, going 3 of 4 at the plate and scoring two runs.

Elijah Sudduth drove in two runs with his double in the sixth.

Jason Davis who started the season as a pitcher, but is now playing mostly in right field, has been showing off his all-around skills. Davis smacked a double to the fence, in the fifth then had an RBI double and scored in the sixth.

Zachary Lowe doubled and scored, in the sixth. His sacrifice fly in the fourth drove in Derrick Lewis who had singled ahead of him.

In Game 2:

Perhaps drained by the drama of game one, Morehouse mustered no offensive or defensive energy, in game two.

The only display of power was an Elijah Sudduth two-run homer in the second inning. The blast by the junior shortstop was his first as a Maroon Tiger and drove in catcher Zachary Lowe who had doubled.

Sudduth added a single in the fifth. Lowe banged out a single in the sixth and was replaced by pinch runner Israel King who scored on a Xavier Floyd single.

On the other side, Paine pounded out 14 hits and drew six walks by three Morehouse pitchers.

Anthony Dodd, who had relieved in the 10-8 win moments earlier, started on the mound, but gave up five quick runs and lasted only a third of an inning.

Pitchers Jordan Tarver and Xzadrean Gladney were equally ineffective. Both pitched three innings and each surrendered six runs on six hits and two walks.

 E. Krenz went the distance for the Lions, scattering eight hits, striking out six and walking one.
