The Maroon Tigers lost two close games to the Claflin University Panthers. Claflin took the first game, 5-4, in nine innings, and the second game, 2-1, on a Morehouse error in the bottom of the seventh inning.

In Game 1:

Morehouse got on the scoreboard first, with a walk by Christian Griffith and an RBI double by Jared Maner, in the fourth inning. Claflin bounced back, with four runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Claflin held on until a 3-run Morehouse rally in the top of the seventh tied the score at 4-all.

A Morehouse error allowed a Panther baserunner to reach second base, in the bottom of the ninth. The Panthers sacrifice bunted the runner to third and a bloop single to center pushed him across home plate for the winning run.

In Game 2:

Julian Stephens singled in the first, advanced to third when Jared Maner reached on an error and scored on a single by Xavier Floyd.

The one-run lead held until the bottom of the sixth, when Julian Stephens lost a line drive in the late-afternoon sun that went for a three-base error. A sacrifice fly drove in the runner from third and tied the score at 1-1.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Panthers scored the winning run on an errant throw to first base that rolled out into right field.

The two teams will play again, Sunday, at 11 a.m. The game was scheduled for 1 p.m., but has been moved up to avoid the rain, which is forecast for the early afternoon.
