March 1, 2015 – ATLANTA – The Maroon Tigers broke out the whooping sticks against Clark Atlanta, pounding out 21 hits and winning 17-8.

Jared Maner had the big blast, a three-run homer, in the eighth inning when Morehouse broke open a close game with 10 runs. Maner's bomb to right field was the second Morehouse homer this season. Jordan Tarver hit one yesterday.

Darrius Johnson, Derrick Lewis and Zachary Lowe led the Morehouse hit parade, with three hits each.

Lewis drove in four runs. Three came in the eighth, when the Maroon Tigers batted around and Lewis hit two singles.

Lowe added to his team-leading RBI total, driving in two runs. He also scored four times. Yesterday, in Game 1, Lowe drove in three runs.

Johnson, who scored three times and drove in a run, jumpstarted the eighth-inning rally with a single, then promptly stole second.

Christian Griffith scored two runs and drove in two runs, on two hits and a sacrifice fly.

Patrick Dickerson collected two hits and two RBI and scored a run. Elijah Sudduth hammered out a single and one of the four Morehouse doubles.

Pitcher Jason Davis got the start. He went four-and-a-third innings and gave up five hits and five runs, though only three of the runs were earned. He walked three and struck five.

Jordan Tarver came on in relief. He went two-and-a-third, giving up two runs on a hit, three walks and a hit batsman.

Cole Gibson followed Tarver on the mound and was the beneficiary of the Morehouse offensive eruption. He surrendered only one run on three hits and a walk. He struck out three and got the win, improving his record to 2-1.

One of the most exciting plays of the game was a steal by Xavier Floyd. After getting hit by a pitch in the sixth, Floyd headed toward second base on the next pitch. The 5'9, 250-pound Floyd, who is not known for his foot speed, surprised everyone, including the CAU catcher. Floyd's head-first slide into second base beat the throw and the Morehouse bench erupt in celebration.

Clark Atlanta tallied eight runs on nine hits. Derrick Lott had three hits and two RBI. Arias Smith collected two hits and three RBI.

The Maroon Tigers get to rest up a bit, after their four-game sweep of Clark Atlanta. They travel to Augusta, GA, next week, for the first taste of conference action. Morehouse takes on Paine, in a doubleheader, Saturday, and a single game, Sunday.
