Box Score February 7, 2015 – ATLANTA – The Maroon Tigers suffered their first and second losses of the season, at the hands of the Virginia State Trojans, in Saturday's doubleheader.
On an almost Spring-like day, nearly 100 fans showed up at Southwest Atlanta's Perkerson Park, to see Morehouse host the visiting Trojans.
In Game 1: VSU pounded out 17 hits and scored 17 runs, while holding the Tigers to three runs on seven hits.
Jared Maner was the only Tiger with more than one hit. The freshman left fielder had two hits, a walk and scored a run.
Daron Bowling started on the mound for Morehouse and gave up 10 runs on nine hits in two innings.
Malik Zuberi pitched the final five innings, surrendering seven runs on eight hits. He walked three and struck out two.
Joshua Markins swung the big bat for VSU, collecting two hits, five runs-batted-in and scoring three runs.
In Game 2: It was more of the same for the Tigers who failed to generate any offensive firepower and fell 16-5. .
VSU's Jay Dee Johnson went the distance, scattering six hits and allowing only one earned run.
Freshman Darius Johnson, who had two hits in two plate appearances, was the only Tiger with more than one hit. Johnson played center field in relief of starter Ryan Christian who had a hit and scored a run.
Patrick Dickerson drove in three runs, on a single and a forced error.
Anthony Dodd pitched 4 and two-thirds innings and allowed seven earned runs on nine hits. He walked four and struck out three.
Xzadrean Gladney come on in relief and gave up four hits and four runs, though only one of them earned.
Morehouse committed three errors and left six men on base.
Nick Christopher did most of the damage for the Trojans. Christopher had three hits, scored two runs and drove in five.
Morehouse will play another doubleheader, Sunday, against the Miles College Golden Bears. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
