Box Score December 6, 2014 -- CHARLOTTE, NC – The Maroon Tigers let a 22-point lead slip through their paws and lost to the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls, 61-60, on day two of the CIAA-SIAC Challenge.
Michael Scott sank a desperation three-pointer near mid-court at the buzzer that closed the gap to one point, but it wasn't enough to overcome the collapse of a 26-point turnaround against the Golden Bulls on their home court.
The game was a tale of two halves. In the first half, Morehouse was in complete control, protecting the ball, shooting a high percentage and playing good defense. The second half was a world apart.
After intermission, the Maroon Tigers committed 12 of their 16 turnovers and hit only 7 of 25 shots, while being out-scored 40-20.
The Maroon Tigers out-rebounded the Bulls 43-34, but hit only 9 of 18 free-throws. The Bulls hit 15 of 19 free throws, most of them in the second half.
Scott (4 of 12) and Tyrone Brown (5 of 7) shared the scoring lead for Morehouse with 12 points. Brown had a team-high seven rebounds.
Johnathan Walker had his best game of the season, hitting 4 of 6 shots from the field and both of his free throws, for 11 points. He also hauled in six rebounds.
Brandon Glover hit 4 of 8 shots and finished with 10 points, to go with four rebounds and two assists.
It was the second one-point loss this season for Morehouse, and drops the Maroon Tigers to 2-4. Morehouse lost 49-48 on a buzzer beater to Lee University in the season opener. Last year, Morehouse lost to the Golden Bulls 73-66 in the season opener at home. JCSU improved to 4-3.
Raston Brown, with 13 points and six rebounds, led the charge for the Bulls.
A day earlier, Morehouse beat Virginia Union 70-66 and Johnson C. Smith defeated Tuskegee 87-77.
Morehouse will be off until December 16, when they return home to face another CIAA rival – the Livingstone Bears, at 7 p.m.
