November 8, 2014 – ATLANTA – The Maroon Tigers surrendered an early touchdown, scored 20 unanswered points then held on for a 26-20 win over Kentucky State.

The win was a three-fold victory, especially for the 14 seniors in their last game at B.T. Harvey Stadium. It avenged a 44-0 defeat to the Thorobreds last season. It ended this season on a winning note. And it gave the Tigers a winning season, for the first time in three years.

Morehouse improved to 6-4 (4-3 SIAC) and finishes the season in second place in the SIAC East, behind Albany State. The Maroon Tigers had an identical record to Fort Valley State, but leap ahead of the Wildcats by virture of beating them 24-21, November 1. KSU fell to 3-7 (2-5 SIAC) and finish in fifth place in the West.

Quarterback Monqavious Johnson had a second straight solid game, connecting on 12 of 18 passes, for 129 yards and a touchdown. His 11-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter gave Morehouse a 26-14 lead and put the game out of KSU's reach.

The Maroon Tigers took advantage of poor punting by Cade Berryman who averaged 11.2 yards on four punts. The short punts gave Morehouse good field possession and led to three scores.

Last week, the Maroon Tigers missed two extra points and a short field goal. This week kicker Alexis Gonzales was perfect from the field, hitting field goals of 28 and 30 yards and tacking on an extra point.

Looking at the stats alone, it's hard to see how Morehouse came out on top. KSU dominated in nearly category but the score. They won the rushing battle, 209-88, the passing battle, 247-127 and time of possession, 33-27.

Jacquise Lockett, the SIAC's second-leading rusher, gashed the Maroon Tigers for 169 yards. His 77-yard run for a touchdown put KSU ahead 7-0.

Despite giving up huge chunks of yardage, the Morehouse defense stepped up big, when it had to. Seniors Lance White (13 tackles), Demario Dixon (9 tackles) and Joshua Thurston led Morehouse in tackling.

Though he doesn't get his number called much, freshman Lynd Parrish made one of the biggest plays of the game. Parrish, a reserve linebacker, stripped the ball at the 1-yard line, from Tramell Davis who was headed for what would have been a sure touchdown. The ball rolled through the end zone for a touchback and gave Morehouse the ball at the 20-yard line.

Joshua Burton and Raynard picked off passes early in the game, but none was bigger than the interception by linebacker Thaddeus Shaw.

With time running out in the fourth and KSU building momemtum on a long drive, Shaw picked off a KSU pass at the 13-yard line and the Morehouse sideline celebration erupted.
