The new year has yet to be kind to the Maroon Tigers, who fell for the second time in three days, this time to the Stillman College Tigers, 99-88.
In the first half, Morehouse trailed by as many as nine points, but rallied late, to tie the score at 48-all. Darrius Williams scored 15 of his game-high 31 points and Javarius Gay scored all 10 of his points, to keep the Maroon Tigers close.
In the second, the Maroon Tigers stayed within striking distance for most of the period, but Stillman finished on a 20-10 run and handed Morehouse its second straight conference loss, against no wins.
Williams, playing in only his second game of the season, was one of five Maroon Tigers in double figures. He hit 10 of 18 shots and 10 of 14 free throws and came within two points of his career high, achieved against Stillman, last January. He added team-highs in rebounds (9) and assists (6).
Austin Anderson bounced back from a career-low, one-point game against Tuskegee, on Saturday, with 13 points and three assists.
Robert Askew and David Buchannon scored 11 points each. Askew connected on all five of his shots. Buchannon has scored in double figures in six straight games and in 8 of 9 games overall.
Javarius Gay added 10 points, on three threes and a free throw.
Morehouse had a season-low 11 turnovers and out-rebounded Stillman, 43-37, but failed to capitalize on that advantage.
Six Stillman Tigers scored in double figures. Markeith Madison poured in 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds, tying him with Darrius Williams for the game high. Stillman improved to 7-7 (2-1 SIAC).
Morehouse concludes the three-game Alabama road trip, against the Miles College Golden Bears, in Birmingham, Thursday, at 7 p.m. (CST).
The Tigers beat the Bears, 59-56, in their only meeting, last season, in Forbes Arena.
