November 3, 2012 – ATLANTA – David Carter rushed for 185 yards and tied a Morehouse scoring record with five touchdowns, leading the Maroon Tigers to a 55-7 win over the Kentucky State University Thorobreds, in the season finale for both teams.
The Maroon Tigers finished the year at 3-7, the first losing season since Head Coach Rich Freeman took over in 2007. KSU ended the year at 1-8.
Tying one of the few Morehouse rushing records he doesn't already own, Carter punctuated a spectacular Morehouse career. His five rushing touchdowns tied the mark set by Andrew Smith, against Fisk University, in 1968.
Carter carried the ball on 43 of the team's 66 rushing plays. None of Carter's rushing touchdowns was for more than five yards and his longest carry was 25 yards.
Carter also completed his first pass of the season, a 36-yard strike to Devance Harris, in the most lopsided win of the season.
Brandon Houston led a fired up Morehouse defense that held the Thorobreds to 161 yards of total offense, the lowest by any opponent this season.
Houston collected a game-high 12 tackles, including two tackles for loss. But his biggest play was an interception that he returned for a 25-yard touchdown. The Pick Six set the scoring tone for highest point total since Morehouse beat Kentucky State 58-55, at B.T. Harvey Stadium, in 2006.
With the game safely in hand, red-shirt freshman quarterback Joshua Harris got his first extended action of the season. Harris alternated with starter Donnay Ragland, who threw two passes and rushed for 30 yards.
Harris completed 5-of-7 passes for 65 yards and two touchdowns. One of his scoring passes went to Devon Mann, a 30-yarder at the end of the first half. The other was a 10-yarder to Devance Harris who led the team in receptions with 46 yards.
