Morehouse Loses to Tuskegee

October 6, 2012 -- COLUMBUS, GA -- The Maroon Tigers squandered prime scoring opportunities, and instead, turned the ball over to the Tuskegee Golden Tigers, who cashed in the gifts for a 21-14 victory.  
 
Quarterback Donnay Ragland, threw back-to-back interceptions in the second quarter, which Tuskegee converted into a 14-0 lead.
 
Ragland got one of the touchdowns back, in the third quarter, when he darted four yards into the end zone. The touchdown was set up by a 38-yard punt return by Thomas Williams.
 
In the first quarter, Morehouse had the ball 1st and goal at the 10-yard and failed to score. In the third quarter, four attempts from the one-yard line, were stuffed by the Golden Tigers. 
 
Tuskegee got its final touchdown, on an 80-yard drive, with 2:44 left in the fourth quarter. Derrick Washington ran it in from the three-yard line.
 
The touchdown appeared to put the game out of reach, as on the ensuing possession, Ragland threw his fourth interception of the game.
 
On the second play, Tuskegee quarterback Justin Nared fumbled the snap and Morehouse joined the take-away party.
 
Defensive lineman Richard Sanders scooped up the loose ball and raced 55 yards for his first collegiate touchdown.
 
The touchdown was too little too late. TU ran out the clock and dropped Morehouse to 2-4.
 
David Carter sat out the second straight game with a hamstring injury. Shelton Hamilton, the backup, also missed a second game with a leg injury.
 
Brandon Houston led the Maroon Tigers in tackles, with 12, and was named the Morehouse Most Valuable Player of the Classic. Quavon Taylor, who had 15 tackles, two interceptions and a sack, was named the Tuskegee MVP.   
 
Justin Oliver chipped in 11 tackles. Demario Dixon and Lance White added nine each.
 
Devance Harris caught four passes for 35 yards. Devon Mann and Sean Moore each caught three passes, for 37 and 29 yards, respectively.

As running back, receiver and kick returner, Williams amassed a game-leading 120 all-purpose yards. 
 
Morehouse will play Albany State, at home, Saturday, at 7 p.m.
