September 4, 2011—BIRMINGHAM, AL – Quarterback Byron Ingram and running back Winston Bodrick each scored two touchdowns and powered Morehouse to a 47-9 thrashing of Miles, in the season opener, at historic Legion Field.
The Morehouse offense ran roughshod over Miles, scoring on almost every possession. The Maroon Tigers converted a phenomenal 11-of-16 third-down chances and amassed 427 yards of total offense, 269 rushing yards and 178 passing yards.
On defense, Morehouse stuffed the Golden Bears, allowing one touchdown and one field goal. To put the domination in perspective, Miles rushed for 56 yards, Morehouse running back David Carter rushed for 118.
Same story in the passing game – two Miles quarterbacks passed for 67 yards, while Morehouse wide receiver Derrick Hector caught seven passes for 66 yards.
Miles' only first half score came on a 33-yard field goal by Patton Chambers.
The Tigers came out just as strong in the second half. On what appeared to be a quarterback draw, Ingram weaved his way into the end zone, from the 21-yard line, for his second rushing touchdown. Bodrick, a transfer from Morehead State, scored his second touchdown on a one-yard plunge, and Carter ran over four defenders, on his way to a 17-yard score.
Miles' only touchdown followed a bad snap to punter Brandon Hoffman that gave the Bears possession at the Morehouse 8-yard line, with 6:30 left in the game. Two plays later, David Thomas plowed it in from the one.
The Maroon Tigers will travel to Washington, DC, Saturday, to face the Howard University Bison, in the Nation's Football Classic, at RFK Stadium, at 3:30 p.m. Visit www.NationsFootballClassic.com for more information.
