March 20, 2011 – ATLANTA – The Maroon Tigers battled back from a four-run deficit, to beat the Paine College Lions, 12-9, and win their first conference game of the season.
Trailing 7-3 in the seventh inning, Morehouse rallied for five runs, on six hits. The Tigers tacked on four more runs in the bottom of eighth, to secure the win.
Pitcher #
Kale Blackshear# got the win and evened his season record at 1-1. The sophomore from Covington, GA relieved starter #
Brandon Lowe# in the sixth, when Paine rallied for seven runs to take a 7-3 lead.
First baseman #
Vallmer Jordan# accounted for five Morehouse runs, scoring two and driving in three, with two singles and a double.
Leftfielder #
David Harvey# hit a double in the eighth to drive in two insurance runs then scored on a Jordan single.
Centerfielder #
Russell Richey# drove in two runs, with a double and a single and scored a run in the third, on a wild pitch.
Right fielder #
Willis Bradwell# had a big offensive day, scoring three runs, hitting three singles and stealing three bases. His single in the seventh drove in the first of five Morehouse runs.
Infielder #
William Coble# started the seventh-inning rally with the first of his two hits. He scored two runs and came in to pitch in the ninth, striking out the only batter he faced.
Morehouse improved to 5-12 (1-5 SIAC) and will play a double-header against the LeMoyne-Owen Magicians, Thursday, at 12 p.m., at Perkerson Park.
