October 15, 2011 – ALBANY, GA – The Maroon Tigers fell behind early then clawed their way back, before falling short, 25-15, to Albany State, which took sole possession of first place in the SIAC East Division.

Albany State got on the board first on a two-yard touchdown run by running back Nathan Hoyte.

The point-after attempt was blocked by Justin Oliver and scooped up by Joshua Thurston, who sprinted 92 yards, for a two-point score.

Albany State scored twice in the second quarter, on scoring passes of 22 and 33 yards, from Stanley Jennings to Ronnie Tubbs and Octavius Staton.

Albany State led 19-2 at the half.

In the third quarter, the Maroon Tigers capitalized on a fumble forced by Elijah Anderson  and recovered by Christopher Bailey.

Quarterback Byron Ingram orchestrated a masterful 70-yard drive, which led to the first Morehouse touchdown. As he did for most of the game, Ingram executed Houdini-like escapes from near-certain sacks and completed passes to DeVance Harris and Darquan McCain to sustain the scoring drive.

Ingram capped the scoring drive with a 15-yard strike to wide receiver Derrick Hector at the 5:40 mark.

Forced to run for most of the game, Ingram completed 21-of-40 passes for a season-high 291 yards, but was sacked six times and intercepted three times.

Four Tigers hauled in four passes each, led by DeVance Harris whose catches totaled 75 yards. McCain tallied 71 yards, Paul Parker 50 yards and Hector amassed 39.

In the fourth, free safety Darrius Williams intercepted an Albany State pass to set up a Morehouse touchdown. David Carter carried it in from the four-yard line, to tighten the score to 22-15.

With 2:51 left in the fourth, Morehouse held and forced a 34-yard field goal attempt that flew wide right.

Albany State halted Morehouse's final drive with an interception, with under a minute left and kicked a 25-yard field goal to seal the game.

The Tiger defense held Albany State to 379 yards, the second lowest total by any opponent this season, but two second quarter mistakes that led to touchdowns overshadowed an otherwise fine effort.

Elijah Anderson and Brandon Houston tied for the game-high in tackles, with 13 each. The Tigers collected seven tackles-for-loss and three sacks.

Running back David Carter was held to 45 yards, well below his season average of 131.2 yards. He had two pass receptions for 38 yards.

Morehouse (5-2; 3-1) returns home to face Benedict (2-5; 1-3), in the final home game of the regular season. The 2 p.m. game is both Homecoming and Senior Day.
