Mays comes to Atlanta, having spent the prior three years working alongside Larry Dixon as a graduate assistant and the assistant director of basketball operations at North Caarolina State. NC State made the NCAA tournament in his first two seasons, including an ACC Championship and a historic Final Four run is 2024.

Prior to NC State, Mays spend one year working at Orangeville Prep in Ontario, Canada. For the 2020-21 season, he served as the Assistant Coach for Orangeville Prep, which sent four players to NCAA D1 programs.

Mays was a student assistant at University of South Carolina-Upstate Men's Basketball Program, under Dave Dickerson, where he also earned his bachelor's degree in exercise science.

Mays first got into coaching under the mentorship of Curtis Wheeler and the Upward Stars Program.

Coach Rudy is from Woodruff, SC and he has one son, Elijah.
