Maroon Tigers Keep Rolling, Sweep Miles in Dominant SIAC Series

Maroon Tigers have won seven of last eight games and now sit in 3rd place in the SIAC.

ATLANTA, GA | Morehouse kept its hot streak alive in emphatic fashion over the weekend, sweeping Miles in a three-game SIAC baseball series at Gresham Park by scores of 14-4, 15-1, and 17-5. The Maroon Tigers have now won six straight games and seven of their last eight, and every win in the series came by double digits. Game one and game three both ended early under the 10-run rule, while game two was a scheduled seven-inning contest. Across the series, Morehouse scored 46 runs on 39 hits, blasted five home runs, and drew 32 walks. Morehouse concludes the weekend with a record of 14-10, 11-5 in the SIAC. This also marks the first six-game winning streak for the Maroon Tigers since 2023 and the first time that the Maroon Tigers have a record of .500 or better at this point in the season since 2016.

Game 1: Morehouse 14, Miles 4 (8 innings)

Morehouse set the tone right away in the opener and never really let Miles settle in. The Maroon Tigers scored in the first four innings, answered a late push from the Golden Bears, and then finished the game with a three-run eighth to trigger the 10-run rule.

Scoring Summary

Robert Robinson Jr opened the bottom of the first with a double, TJ Whiteman followed with an RBI double, and Elijah James added an RBI single to make it 2-0. Miles got on the board in the second, but Whiteman answered again with a two-run double in the bottom half. Morehouse added two more in the third on an RBI single from Tripp Braswell and an RBI double from Robinson, then got a solo homer from James in the fourth for a 7-2 lead. Miles cut the margin to 7-4 in the seventh, but the Maroon Tigers answered immediately with four runs, including an RBI walk by Elijah Pinckney, an RBI groundout from Whiteman, and a two-run double from Kendyn Fredieu. Morehouse then plated three more in the eighth to end it early.

Key Moments

Whiteman was the clear offensive spark in the opener, driving in five runs and coming through in multiple big spots. James added a home run, Robinson doubled twice, and Morehouse took control for good with its four-run answer in the seventh after Miles had cut the game to three. On the mound, Jackson Edington stabilized things in the middle innings with four strikeouts in two scoreless frames, and Andwele Pittman closed it out with 1.2 scoreless innings.

Game 2: Morehouse 15, Miles 1 (7 innings)

The nightcap was even more lopsided. Morehouse broke a close game wide open with seven runs in the fourth and seven more in the fifth, overwhelming the Golden Bears in the scheduled seven-inning second game.

Scoring Summary

The Maroon Tigers scratched out a run in the first when Myles Tucker singled home Elijah Pinckney. That 1-0 edge held until the fourth, when Morehouse exploded. Tucker, Elijah James, and Nicholas Pittman each forced in runs with bases-loaded walks before Braswell crushed a grand slam to center, turning the inning into a 7-run avalanche and an 8-0 lead. Miles scored its lone run in the fifth, but Morehouse answered again with another seven-run frame. Mariano McLean drew an RBI walk, Braswell lined a two-run single, Satchel Hamilton doubled home two more, Whiteman forced in a run with a walk, and Tucker capped the inning with an RBI single.

Key Moments

Braswell's grand slam was the biggest swing of the night and completely changed the game. Tucker reached base four times and drove in three, Hamilton added a two-run double, and the Morehouse staff never let Miles mount any real threat. Cameron Simmons gave the Maroon Tigers exactly what they needed in the start, allowing just one run over 5.1 innings with seven strikeouts, while Dejorryn Pettis finished it off with 1.2 scoreless innings and three punchouts.

Game 3: Morehouse 17, Miles 5 (8 innings)

Miles showed a little more fight in Sunday's finale, but Morehouse still had too much firepower. The Maroon Tigers built an early cushion, weathered the Golden Bears' best push in the middle innings, then buried the game with a seven-run bottom of the eighth to secure another run-rule victory and the series sweep.

Scoring Summary

Morehouse scored twice in the first, getting an RBI single from Elijah James and another run home on a Braswell reach on an error. The Maroon Tigers then broke things open in the second. Elijah Pinckney doubled in a run, Tucker followed with a two-run double, and Nicholas Pittman launched a three-run homer to left for an 8-0 lead. Miles chipped away with one in the third and three in the fifth to get within 9-4, but Morehouse kept answering. Mariano McLean delivered an RBI single in the fourth, Pinckney added an RBI bunt single in the sixth, and after Miles scored once in the eighth to make it 10-5, the Maroon Tigers slammed the door with seven in the bottom half. Robert Robinson started the final burst with an RBI single, Pinckney followed with a two-run homer, Kendyn Fredieu added an RBI single, and Braswell crushed a three-run homer to end it.

Key Moments

The second inning gave Morehouse full control early, but the biggest response came in the eighth after Miles trimmed the deficit to five. Pinckney and Braswell both homered in the final frame, and the Maroon Tigers finished with 17 hits in the game. Pinckney led the attack with four RBI, Tucker had three hits, and Pittman's three-run homer was one of the early turning points. Vernon Clay worked five innings to earn the win, and Ian Makle finished the final three innings with four strikeouts.
