Five-Run 7th Fuels Maroon Tigers’ Comeback, Braswell Delivers in 10th to Top Rust, 9-8

NEW ORLEANS, LA | Morehouse refused to fold after falling behind by five runs late, erupting for a five-run seventh inning to erase an 8-3 deficit before Tripp Braswell's go-ahead RBI single in the 10th lifted the Maroon Tigers to a 9-8 win over the Rust Bears Saturday night at Wesley Barrow Stadium.

Scoring Summary

  • Top 2: Caleb Harley lined an RBI single to center, scoring Cam Simmons to tie it, 1-1.
  • Bottom 2: Rust pushed across three runs — one came home on a wild pitch, another on a fielder's choice, and M. Smith added an RBI single to stretch it to 4-1.

  • Top 10: After a walk and a sacrifice bunt moved the winning run into scoring position, Tripp Braswell punched an RBI single through the left side to score Bradley Selma for the decisive run, 9-8.

Key Moments

Morehouse spent much of the night grinding through long at-bats and traffic on the bases, drawing 16 walks and consistently forcing Rust's pitching staff into stressful innings. The Maroon Tigers finally broke through in the seventh, turning a Rust miscue into extended life — and then cashing it in with back-to-back RBI walks before Pinckney's two-out, two-run double flipped the momentum completely.

On the mound, the Maroon Tigers' bullpen was massive down the stretch. Andwele Pittman slammed the door in the middle innings with five strikeouts over 2.1 frames, and Antonio Holloway finished it off by working out of trouble in the 10th — ending the game with a double play after Rust put the tying runner on base.
