FRANKFORT, KY. | Playing with first place in the SIAC East on the line, Morehouse put together a wire-to-wire performance Thursday night, knocking off Kentucky State, 91-56, in a cross-division matchup at the William Exum HPER Center. The Maroon Tigers buried 13 three-pointers, turned defense into offense with 14 steals, and used a 46-point bench effort to stay a half-game ahead of Clark Atlanta in the East race.
First Half
Morehouse wasted no time getting comfortable on the road. Sincere Moore drilled a three-pointer on the Maroon Tigers' first trip, and the early barrage continued as JerMontae Hill and Brandon Peters each knocked down triples to spark a 9-0 burst in the opening minutes.
Kentucky State finally got on the board with a tip-in, but Morehouse kept the pressure on. Peters splashed another three, and Robert Brazelton added a layup as the Maroon Tigers continued to stretch the lead with crisp ball movement and timely stops.
Midway through the half, Josiah Lawson and Jared White helped turn a steady advantage into separation. With 10:15 left before halftime, Moore's jumper pushed Morehouse in front 27-10, capping a stretch where the Maroon Tigers controlled both tempo and space.
The Thorobreds answered with their best push of the half as Kentucky State trimmed the deficit to single digits, making it 30-21 with 5:27 to play.
Morehouse responded like a first-place team. Lawson drilled a three to halt the momentum, White scored twice in the closing minutes, and Peters buried a late three with five seconds left to send the Maroon Tigers into the break up 40-24.
Second Half
Morehouse opened the second half the same way it started the game—attacking early. Peters finished a layup, Moore followed with a jumper, and the lead quickly pushed to 44-24.
Kentucky State showed some fight with finishes at the rim to cut it to 46-32, but that's when the Maroon Tigers slammed the door. Over the next few minutes, Morehouse ripped off an 11-0 run highlighted by a Lawson jumper, a Tre Lockett three, a Sincere Key three, and a Caleb Thompson dunk to balloon the advantage to 57-32.
And when the Thorobreds tried to steady themselves, Morehouse answered from deep again. White, Lawson, and Moore buried three straight triples to extend the margin to 70-37, turning the final eight minutes into a finish-and-build stretch for the Maroon Tigers.
Kentucky State got a few baskets to fall late—including a couple of threes—to make it 74-50, but Morehouse responded with another Moore triple and closed the night with strong bench minutes, including buckets from Isaiah Jackson, Blake Pollock, and Eric Jones to secure the 35-point win.
