Early Maroon Tigers Lead Fades in 12-2 Setback to Edward Waters

JACKSONVILLE, FL | Morehouse jumped in front early, but the Edward Waters Tigers used a big middle stretch and relentless pressure on the bases to pull away as the Maroon Tigers fell, 12-2, Friday night at JP Small Ballpark. Morehouse grabbed a 2-1 lead in the second inning behind RBI knocks from Elijah Pinckney and Satchel Hamilton, but Edward Waters answered with nine runs from the third through the fifth to take control in the eight-inning decision.

Key Moments

Morehouse had an early opportunity to strike first in the opening inning after drawing a pair of walks, but Edward Waters worked out of it and then cashed in quickly in the bottom half.

The Maroon Tigers responded with their best sequence of the night in the second: Elijah James reached, Tripp Braswell got aboard, and Satchel Hamilton executed a perfectly-placed bunt single to bring home the tying run. Two batters later, Elijah Pinckney drove a double into the right-field gap to plate Braswell and give Morehouse a 2-1 edge.

From there, the momentum turned in the third and fourth innings as Edward Waters stacked quality at-bats, produced extra-base damage, and took advantage of extended innings. The Tigers' speed also showed up all night (seven stolen bases), and six wild pitches proved costly as the margin grew.
