Maroon Tigers Stay Perfect in SIAC East with 82-67 Win Over Albany State

ATLANTA, GA | Morehouse kept the momentum rolling Thursday night at Forbes Arena, pulling away early and holding firm down the stretch for an 82-67 SIAC East Division victory over Albany State. The win pushed the Maroon Tigers to 8-0 in the SIAC East and extended their 2026 win streak to seven straight, as Morehouse continues to sit alone in first place in the division.

First Half

Morehouse came out with confidence and pace, setting the tone right away when Sincere Moore drilled a three-pointer on the opening possessions to ignite the home crowd. Albany State answered  and later tied the game at 5-5 with a three from the wing.

From there, the Maroon Tigers started stacking stops and turning those defensive rebounds into quick offense. Jared White got going with a smooth pull-up jumper, then splashed a three to give Morehouse breathing room. Moore continued to pressure the rim in transition, slicing through the defense for a layup that helped Morehouse stretch the margin.

Midway through the half, the Maroon Tigers began to find a rhythm from the outside. Tre Lockett buried a three, and Brandon Peters followed with one of his own as Morehouse built a multi-possession lead. White knocked down another triple, and the Tigers' movement on the perimeter kept Albany State rotating late with the type of ball movement that leads to clean looks.

Albany State tried to settle in, but every time the Golden Rams threatened, Morehouse answered. Moore stepped to the line and calmly hit free throws, then Josiah Lawson powered through traffic for a strong finish at the rim to keep the Tigers in control.

The closing minutes of the half belonged to Morehouse's balance. Sincere Key knocked down a three to push the lead back up, JerMontae Hill finished inside, and Lawson stayed aggressive—getting downhill for another bucket and converting at the free-throw line. Peters capped a big closing surge with a three that gave Morehouse its largest first-half cushion. Albany State hit a late shot to trim the margin, but Lawson answered at the horn with a smooth jumper to send Morehouse into halftime up 39-27.

Second Half

Morehouse wasted no time coming out of the break, and JerMontae Hill made sure Albany State felt it immediately. Hill opened the half with a jumper and then threw down a dunk, helping Morehouse balloon the advantage to 43-27 and forcing Albany State to play from behind again.

The Golden Rams responded with their best punch of the night. A score off a second-chance opportunity and a three along with a string of stops helped  Albany State go on a 10-0 run, cutting the Morehouse lead all the way down to 45-39 with just under 15 minutes to play.

That's when Morehouse settled back into its identity: defend, rebound, run. Peters scored at the rim to stop the bleeding, Moore knocked down free throws, then attacked the lane for another finish as the Tigers rebuilt their cushion. Lawson delivered a big momentum swing with a three, and Moore followed with a jumper to keep Albany State from getting any closer.

The Maroon Tigers' bench energy showed up in a major way during the middle portion of the half. Blake Pollock drilled a three to push the lead back out, Hill scored again inside, and Morehouse continued to win the possession battle with strong defensive rebounds that triggered transition chances. Even with Albany State fighting to the finish, Morehouse consistently answered with timely baskets and made the Golden Rams work for everything.

Down the stretch, Albany State made one more push and trimmed the lead to 75-65 with under three minutes remaining. But Morehouse slammed the door shut. Hill delivered a powerful dunk to stop the momentum, Key knocked down a clutch three to restore a comfortable margin, and Moore finished it off with a late layup as the Maroon Tigers closed out another division win in front of 867 fans at Forbes Arena.
