MACON, GA | Morehouse College's athletic excellence was recognized in grand fashion yesterday at the SIAC Football Media Day, where the Maroon Tigers were presented with the SIAC Commissioner's Cup trophy. This prestigious award, determined by cumulative team performance across the 2024–25 season, honors the institution whose athletic programs delivered standout finishes across conference sports.
Instituted to reward sustained success, the Commissioner's Cup gauges results in championship standings, conference tournaments, and regular-season outcomes. In the 2024–25 cycle, Morehouse's squads showcased remarkable consistency—most notably with conference championships in men's cross country and podium finishes in track & field, complemented by competitive showings in basketball, baseball, football, tennis, golf, and more.
The trophy was ceremoniously awarded at SIAC Football Media Day, held Tuesday at the Tubman African American Museum in Macon, GA. SIAC Commissioner Dr. Anthony Holloman and Morehouse Athletic Director Harold Ellis '92 highlighted the accolade as a testament to both athletic prowess and institutional pride.
Ellis praised the student-athletes, coaches, and support staff for embodying the school's legacy of excellence.
"Securing the Commissioner's Cup is a reflection of our tenacity and collective effort across all sports. The honor not only recognizes individual team achievements, but also the culture of competitiveness and determination woven throughout the Maroon Tigers' athletic program."
This latest Commissioner's Cup marks a significant milestone for Morehouse, reinforcing its status as a Division II powerhouse in the SIAC and emphasizing the depth and breadth of its athletic accomplishments during the 2024–25 season. The award is marks the second time that Morehouse has received the honor since instituted for the 2013-14 season. Morehouse won the inagural award that season.
