Albany, GA | The Morehouse College track and field team turned in a series of impressive performances at the Annual Alice Coachman Invitational, hosted by Albany State University on April 12, 2025. Several Maroon Tigers recorded personal records (PRs) and season-best efforts across sprints, distance, hurdles, relays, and field events.
Top Three Finishes:
- Jermiah Alibey starred in the hurdles, winning the 400-meter hurdles in 52.87 seconds, a season-best mark, and placing second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.70 seconds.
- Brian Kemei led a clean sweep in the 3000-meter steeplechase, winning with a personal record of 9:38.20, followed by Taylor Battle in second (10:04.74) and Phoenix Satterfield in third (10:35.61).
- Owynn Brown earned a podium spot in the 1500 meters, finishing third with a season-best 4:05.36.
- The Morehouse 4x400-meter relay team (Alibey, Sidney Morris, Jayden Smith, and Michael Simmons Jr.) finished second, clocking a season-best time of 3:21.12.
- The 4x100-meter relay team (Morris, Simmons Jr., Evan Alphonse, and Smith) finished third in 41.27 seconds, a season-best.
- In the field events, Logan McCormick captured first place in the high jump, clearing a personal record height of 2.01 meters (6'7").
- Jordan Turner added a third-place finish in the javelin with a personal best throw of 35.92 meters (117'10").
Notable Season and Personal Bests:
- Michael Simmons Jr. delivered strong performances, running 21.62 in the 200 meters for fifth place and 48.06 in the 400 meters for another fifth-place finish — both season bests.
- Drayton Kolaras clocked a personal record of 1:59.69 to take sixth in the 800 meters.
- Taylor Battle (16:35.36) and Issiah Simms (16:40.40) set season bests while finishing fifth and sixth respectively in the 5000 meters.
- Brogan Korta finished fifth in the pole vault with a season-best clearance of 3.81 meters (12'6").
- Cameron Selders set a personal record in the triple jump, reaching 13.67 meters (44'10.25") to place fifth.
- David Tucker also posted a personal best of 13.03 meters (42'9") to place eighth in the triple jump.
- Adrian Evans hit a personal best in the hammer throw (35.29 meters) to secure sixth place.
- In field events, Isaiah Reaves recorded a personal best of 37.59 meters in the discus, finishing ninth.
Other Strong Finishes:
- Jared Russell II, Christian Whitmore, and Evan Alphonse all posted sub-11 second marks in the 100 meters.
- Sidney Morris clocked 48.87 in the 400 meters, while Darius Williams posted a 50.50 finish.
- Isiah Heard finished eighth in the long jump at 6.30 meters.
