Morehouse Falls Short in Tournament Quarterfinals Match-Up

ATLANTA, GA | Coming off their Saturday win advancing the Morehouse Maroon Tigers to the quarterfinals round of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (SIAC) Men's Tournament, they played against Central State University Marauders at Forbes Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Morehouse finished this game unable to make a comeback, having issues converting offensively throughout this game and repetitive turnovers. The first half of the game began with the Marauders quickly getting hot offensively, but the Tigers remained in contention, keeping the score relatively close. Central State would dominate the half offensively, causing Morehouse to trail in the first half by 11 points, 38-27. In the second half of the game, the Maroon Tigers would still have offensive struggles but would find a rhythm towards the end of the half. However, they would find themselves unable to regain the lead despite Omar Rowe's late-game three-pointer, which gave Morehouse a chance at a late-game comeback by closing the once-large margin. At the conclusion of this quarterfinal match-up, Morehouse lost to Central State, 77-70.

During the first half, the Marauders' and the Tigers traded buckets, giving the inclination that this match-up would be very competitive. Unfortunately, midway through the half, Central State began to take control of the pace of the game, capitalizing on Morehouse's turnovers and ending the half by 11 points, 38-27. Central State would get 12 points in the first half from Morehouse's forced turnovers.  Despite being behind by this margin, there was no doubt that the Tigers would return during the next half of play.

In the second half of the game, Morehouse would begin to chip at the Marauders' lead by creating better shot selections and utilizing defensive press plays to help suppress Central State's offensive dominance. The Tigers were able to cut down Central State's lead to just four points with only 1:12 left in regulation after Taylor III split his free throws, 65-61. Following this, Morehouse would foul the Marauders, which led to two technical fouls called on Taylor III and Central State's on Savion Marshall-Hamilton for a verbal exchange on the floor. The initial foul would allow the Marauders to capitalize on their free throws, extending the lead by six, 67-61.

Although the time left in the game was getting closer to the end of this match-up, Morehouse continued trying to make the best out of their situation but could not gain the lead despite Rowe's late-game three-point heave, 75-70. The game would end with Central State advancing to the semifinals and ending Morehouse's attempt at winning the conference tournament championship, 77-70.

The Tiger's top contributors were Cedric Taylor III, who finished the game with 14 points, nine rebounds, five steals, and four blocks on 36.7% shooting, making 62.5% of his free throws. Jaden Gray contributed to this game with 13 points on 50% shooting, five assists, and two steals.
