COLUMBIA, SC | The Morehouse Maroon Tigers were unable to snap their losing streak on Tuesday evening, falling in straight sets to SIAC rival Benedict College. The host Benedict Tigers controlled the pace throughout the match, sweeping Morehouse 3–0 (25–15, 25–20, 25–20) in Columbia.
Set 1: Benedict Dominates Early
Benedict came out firing in the opening set, attacking with efficiency and poise. The Tigers hit an impressive .536 attack percentage in the frame, led by Jared Brown and Hakan Godoy, who combined for multiple early kills. Morehouse struggled to find a rhythm offensively, with only seven kills on 21 attempts.
Despite a few bright moments—such as a service ace from Aidan Pullian and a pair of kills from Charles Parrish Jr.—the Maroon Tigers couldn't contain Benedict's attack or match their energy. Benedict capitalized on service errors and built a steady lead, closing the set 25–15.
Set 2: Morehouse Battles, But Benedict Pulls Away Late
Set two saw a much more competitive Morehouse squad, with six ties and four lead changes throughout. The Maroon Tigers showed signs of life, including a three-point run that gave them a brief 7–5 lead following back-to-back attack errors by Benedict. Aidan Pullian and Daniel Allen sparked the offense with multiple kills, while Jamar Shackleford Jr. orchestrated the attack with smooth setting.
However, Benedict's block came up big in the latter stages of the set, stifling Morehouse's attackers. Jared Brown continued to be a force, registering key kills down the stretch. Morehouse clawed back to 20–24, but a service error sealed the set for the home team, 25–20.
Set 3: Another Late Push Falls Short
The final set played out similarly to the second. Morehouse once again showed fight, narrowing what was once a large Benedict lead to just four points in the closing moments. Pullian notched several kills late and added a service ace, while Charles Parrish Jr. recorded consecutive kills to keep Morehouse alive.
Unfortunately, errors continued to plague the Maroon Tigers, including missed serves and miscommunications on defense. Benedict's Zion Beckford and De'Andrae Taylor delivered the finishing blows with kills in the final rallies. Despite a three-point surge by Morehouse to make it 24–20, a service error ended the match.
