Morehouse Goes Down as Road-Weary Maroon Tigers Fall 67–55

TUSKEGEE,AL | A strong second-half surge by Tuskegee turned a one-point game at the break into a 67–55 setback for the Morehouse Maroon Tigers in SIAC play Monday night at James Center Arena. The Golden Tigers shot 50 percent from the floor and dominated the paint to hand Morehouse its third loss in the season's opening five road games.

First Half – Fast Start, Late Momentum Swing

Morehouse came out flying in transition. Logan McCormick opened the scoring with a driving layup, and Sincere Moore quickly followed with a layup and a transition three as the Maroon Tigers jumped in front 9–2 less than three minutes into the contest. Moore's early burst, combined with perimeter ball pressure that forced Tuskegee into empty trips, helped Morehouse control the tempo and confidence in the opening stretch.

After Tuskegee chipped away at the foul line and with dribble-penetration, Jared White canned a wing three and McCormick and Brandon Peters added layups to push the lead to 18–12, capping an early 9–3 Morehouse run. The Golden Tigers answered by tightening up defensively and attacking the rim. Khalil Genwright and Anthony Wright fueled a 6–0 burst, turning missed threes and turnovers into layups to pull Tuskegee within one possession.

Morehouse briefly stemmed the tide at the stripe – Sincere Key and Josiah Lawson combined for free throws to keep the Maroon Tigers in front 23–21 – but the momentum swung late. Tuskegee closed the half on a 5–2 spurt, highlighted by a Bolton layup in traffic and an Anthony Wright finish in the final minute, to grab its first lead of the night and take a 26–25 advantage into the locker room.

Second Half – Tuskegee Takes Control

Tuskegee carried that momentum straight into the second half. RJ Walker drilled a three on the Golden Tigers' opening possession to make it 29–25 before Moore responded with a mid-range jumper and McCormick converted a transition layup to knot the score at 29–29, momentarily swinging the energy back to Morehouse.

From there, the home side seized control with the decisive run of the night. Walker hit a pull-up jumper, then followed later with another three and a tip-in as Tuskegee strung together a 7–2 burst to move out to a 36–31 lead. Every time the Maroon Tigers threatened to make a push, Tuskegee answered by going inside. Forwards Kusamae Draper and Genwright repeatedly sliced into the lane for layups and trips to the foul line, helping the Golden Tigers build a double-digit cushion midway through the period.

Morehouse generated some life from its defense – Moore, Peters and JerMontae Hill turned steals into transition opportunities, and the Maroon Tigers lived at the line for stretches – but cold shooting from three (0-for-9 in the second half) and missed chances in the paint kept them from sustaining a rally. Tuskegee, meanwhile, shot 60 percent (15-of-25) after the break and posted 26 second-half points in the paint to steadily widen the gap. The Maroon Tigers twice trimmed the deficit to single digits in the closing minutes, but the Golden Tigers calmly closed it out at the stripe to secure the 12-point victory.
