Morehouse Falls Late at Lane, 69–62, Despite Gritty Road Effort

JACKSON, TN | Morehouse controlled long stretches of the afternoon but could not withstand a second-half surge by Lane College, falling 69–62 on Saturday at J.F. Lane Gymnasium. The Maroon Tigers led at the break and opened the final period with strong execution, but a late push by the Dragons proved decisive in this tight SIAC contest.

First Half Summary

Morehouse opened the game with poise, getting early production from Brandon Peters and Sincere Key while controlling tempo on both ends of the floor. Peters knocked down a pair of early threes, and the Maroon Tigers' defensive rotations forced Lane into tough jumpers and multiple empty possessions.

Midway through the half, the Maroon Tigers' bench sparked an 8–2 stretch highlighted by Omar Farah's steady play and Blake Pollock's mid-range jumper. Logan McCormick asserted himself on the glass, securing four offensive rebounds that extended possessions and created scoring opportunities.

Although Lane's Elijah Greer Dawson kept the Dragons within striking distance, Morehouse consistently answered with balanced scoring. JerMontae Hill functioned as the team's primary facilitator, pushing the ball in transition, finding open shooters, and nearly recording a first-half double-double.

Morehouse entered halftime with a 24–21 lead, controlling rebounding, paint touches, and most of the game's pace.

Second Half Summary

The Maroon Tigers opened the second half with crisp execution. Hill attacked the rim for an early layup, Key added back-to-back baskets—including a three—and McCormick finished through contact to push the lead to seven. At the 17-minute mark, Morehouse held a 30–23 cushion and appeared to seize momentum.

But Lane responded. The Dragons generated a series of defensive stops and began to pile up fast-break points off turnovers. Greer Dawson caught fire, scoring at all three levels and attacking the rim for high-percentage looks.

Morehouse continued to fight. Peters scored off an offensive tip-in, Hill kept probing the lane, and McCormick added another strong finish. However, Lane's free-throw accuracy and improved shooting in the final eight minutes swung the game. A decisive Lane run—capped by a Greer Dawson three and a Jarrell Love dunk—tilted the scoreboard, and the Maroon Tigers could not recover despite quality looks in the final minutes.

Lane outscored Morehouse 48–38 in the second half to secure the win.

Morehouse Statistical Leaders

Morehouse showed toughness and execution in long stretches, but the Dragons' late scoring burst and second-half pressure proved too much to overcome on the road. With conference play tightening, the Maroon Tigers will look to build on strong individual performances and cleaner late-game execution as they move deeper into the SIAC schedule.
