Morehouse Maroon Tigers Indoor Track and Field Midseason Recap

ATLANTA, GA |  The Morehouse Maroon Tigers have showcased a stellar performance in the first half of the indoor track and field season, with numerous personal records (PRs) and season records (SRs) highlighting their competitive prowess across various meets.

Birmingham Indoor Icebreaker (Dec. 6, 2024)

The season began at the Birmingham Indoor Icebreaker, where sophomore Sidney Morris delivered a solid performance in the 400m (50.69) and Owynn Brown set a PR in the 1 Mile (4:42.96). Junior Jordan Turner marked a standout SR in the shot put with a 13.45m throw​.

Ed Temple Classic (Jan. 5, 2025)

The Tigers continued to shine at Tennessee State, with PRs across the board. Evan Alphonse set a PR in the 55m dash (6.60), while Sidney Morris clocked a 50.24 in the 400m for another personal best. The team's field athletes also excelled, with Adrian Evans throwing a PR of 11.90m in the shot put and Julius Washington clearing 1.83m in the high jump​.

Samford Open (Jan. 18, 2025)

The Tigers dominated in the 400m, with Michael Simmons Jr. achieving a meet-best and PR time of 47.79. Owynn Brown secured a PR in the 800m (1:56.87), while Adrian Evans threw 12.46m for a shot put PR. In distance events, Phoenix Satterfield set a season record (10:44.18) in the 3000m​.

KMS Invitational (Jan. 19, 2025)

The team delivered exceptional results at the KMS Invitational. Sidney Morris and Owynn Brown took 1st and 2nd in the 600m with PRs of 1:21.50 and 1:22.01, respectively. Michael Simmons Jr. recorded a 48.52 in the 400m, while Brogan Korta set a season record in the 60m hurdles prelims (8.83). Cameron Selders excelled in field events with a PR of 13.13m in the triple jump​.

Team Highlights

The Tigers' relay squads have been a consistent strength, highlighted by their 3:17.37 finish in the 4x400 relay at the Samford Open. The team's versatility and depth, from sprints to distance events and field performances, promise an exciting second half of the season.
