ATLANTA, Ga. __ Morehouse baseball got off to a great start of the final home series of the regular season with two wins in a doubleheader over Lane to start the weekend, winning 7-4 and 18-4 on Saturday.
Morehouse 7, Lane 4
Morehouse came out victorious over Lane College 7-4 to start the day with game one of the three-game series.
Lane got on the board first in the top of the third inning, after a bases loaded walk to go up a run.
The Maroon Tigers made the score 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth after
Amir Makle doubled, scoring two runs, and a sacrifice fly from
Elijah Pinckney, scoring one run.
The Dragons took the lead in the top of the seventh. Cannon Morgan singled, scoring two runs to give Lane the upper hand, 4-3. Morehouse later regained the lead in the seventh, thanks to an RBI double from Pinckney, a single from
Alan Brown to score two, and a bases loaded walk from
Timothy Whiteman to go up 7-4, before holding Lane scoreless over the final two innings to earn the win.
Casey Coates earned the win for Morehouse in game one, allowing just four hits and two runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking three.
Jaiden Proper appeared in relief, working three and one-third innings, allowing four hits and two runs, while also striking out and walking three.
Makle, Pinckney, and Brown each drove in two runs, while
James Thorpe led the team with two hits at the plate.
Morehouse 18, Lane 4
Lane couldn't keep up with an offensive onslaught from the Maroon Tigers in game two, as Morehouse pounded out 13 hits compared to four from the Dragons in the lopsided contest.
Morehouse jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning after an RBI double from Thorpe to score two runs and a sacrifice fly from Whiteman to put MHC up 3-0.
Despite one run from Lane in the top of the inning, the Maroon Tigers broke the game open with eight runs on three hits in the bottom of the third. Austin Lee and
Darrien Chapman to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, Lee Hodges II singled, scoring one run. One run later scored on an error, followed by an RBI single from
Elijah James, and a grand slam to center field to cap it off from
Jaylen Greene, making the score 11-1.
The Maroon Tigers added another seven runs in the fourth on four hits in the bottom half of the frame. James and Robert Robinson both singled, scoring one run each, followed by a fielder's choice play from Green to drive home the third run on the way to a 18-0 lead heading into the fifth. Lane added three runs on one hit in the top of the fifth, however could not overcome the double figure deficit.
Savion Mohammed stepped on the bump first for Morehouse, giving up four hits and four runs over six innings, walking six batters.
Thorpe and James both collected three hits on the day for Morehouse who finished with a team total of 13. Meanwhile, Whiteman and Green each drove in five runs and Hodges added another two hits in four at-bats.
