ATLANTA- The Maroon Tigers commenced their baseball season this past weekend with a double header and challenging matchup against Kentucky State, with a tough loss score of 18-2 and 12-6.
Game 1:
The Thorobreds jumped out to the lead in the top of the second inning after a sacrifice fly by Parker White, scoring one run. Collier Higgs walked, scoring one run, Antonio Chambers walked, scoring one run, and Isaiah Zepeda-Felix singled scoring two runs for his team.
The Maroon Tigers would score one run in the bottom of the second a solo home run to center field by Robert Robinson on an 0-2 count.
Morehouse would have difficulties scoring for the rest of the game as Kentucky State would score six more runs at the top of the seventh inning.
Game 2:
Morehouse's determination for a victory in the upcoming game, Kentucky State emerged triumphant with a 12-6 win.
In a tightly contested baseball matchup between Morehouse and Kentucky State, both teams engaged in a defensive battle in the early innings, with neither side managing to score in the first inning. However, Kentucky State seized an opportunity in the second inning, putting up two runs on the scoreboard and taking an early lead.
Undeterred, Morehouse responded in the fourth inning with a run scored by
James Thorpe, signaling their determination to get back into the game. As the game progressed into the fifth inning, Morehouse's offense came alive, adding four more runs to their tally and narrowing the gap.
Unfortunately, Kentucky State proved relentless, mounting a strong offensive push in the sixth and seventh innings, scoring five runs in each inning and solidifying their lead. Despite a valiant effort from Morehouse in the final inning, adding one more run, it was not enough to overcome Kentucky State's lead.
The Maroon Tigers are back in action on Sunday to finish off their weekend series against Kentucky State. Due to the weather, the game time changed to 11am.
