Birmingham, AL- The oldest classic in HBCU history took place on Saturday between the Morehouse Maroon Tigers (0-6) and the Tuskegee Golden Tigers (5-1). In last year's match, the Tigers emerged victorious with a score of 31-14, leaving the Maroon Tigers eager for revenge at Legion Field.
At halftime, the Maroon Tigers were tied 6-6 with the Golden Tigers, giving them one half to stage an upset. However, the Golden Tigers had different plans. Early in the second half, Golden Tiger quarterback Christopher Robinson sprinted for a 43-yard touchdown, putting the Maroon Tigers at a disadvantage. Attempting to respond with a touchdown of their own, the Maroon Tigers' quarterback overthrew his target, resulting in an interception by Golden Tiger Christian Ramsey, who returned it all the way to the Morehouse six-yard line.The Golden Tigers extended their lead when Maroon Tiger running back Charles Daniel IV took matters into his own hands, running for a 19-yard touchdown on third down.
Despite trailing 33-13, the Maroon Tigers refused to back down. As the game entered the fourth quarter, the Maroon Tigers were preparing to punt on fourth down, but Maroon Tiger receiver
Brogan Korta had other plans. Before the Golden Tiger defense could react, Korta sprinted to the end zone for a touchdown.
Entering the fourth quarter down by only two possessions, the Maroon Tigers seemed poised for a comeback. However, the defense couldn't prevent Johnny Morris from reaching the end zone. With just 28 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Maroon Tiger quarterback
Taj Gregory threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Charles May, who was tightly covered by three defenders.
Despite the effort, the Golden Tigers secured the victory with a final score of 40-20 after 60 minutes of play, leaving the Maroon Tigers still searching for their first win of the season.
