Columbia, SC- Morehouse takes a tough loss against Benedict College, 78-75, on Monday evening.
Benedict jumped out to an early 10-2 lead as three of their first four shots were dunks. Morehouse came back to tie the game at 14. The Tigers went on a 9-0 run late in the first half to push the lead to 13 points and finished the first half with a 45-36 lead.
Benedict had as much as a 16-point lead in the second half, 62-46 after a 3-pointer by Marshaun West. The Maroon Tigers cut the lead to 70-66 with 4:01 left in the game. A dunk by Tim Moore made it 72-66, but the Maroon Tigers followed with a layup with 3:30 remaining. Smith drilled a 3-pointer off and gave the Tigers a 75-68 lead. The Maroon Tigers came close to taking the lead at the last .53 seconds when they cut the lead down to only 4 but Benedict shot a free throw and secure the win.
Brandon Smith would lead his team with 24 points. Malachi McCoy would be right behind him with 13.
Kerry Richardson finished with 14 points.
